Daveys Bay Beach Dog Off Leash Area

2 Brookwood Drive, Mount Eliza VIC, 3930

Beach
Time Restrictions

The dog off leash area applies from the end Daveys Bay Road east for a distance of 290 metres to the nearest eastern headland.

There are three narrow beaches in a 1.5 km long section of coast backed by 20 to 30 m high bluffs. The area is mainly used by the Daveys Bay Yacht Club and fishers.

Access - Daveys Bay Road runs to the top of Pelican Point, with walking access down the bluffs to Pelican Point Beach and Daveys Bay, where a yacht club and jetty are located.

There is a walk along the cliff top. If you turn to the right you will walk around to Davey's Bay. Turn to the left and you will come to Pelican Point Lookout and then on around to Freemans Road. Directly at the end of Davey's Bay Road are steps that take you down to Pelican Point beach.

From the end of Daveys Bay Road there are a number of paths to different beaches. Immediately ahead is a narrow track through the bushes to a lookout with restricted views of the coast below.

If you take the track to the right, beside high fences with expensive houses sitting behind them, it will lead after a few minutes to a wooden staircase which leads down to the Davey's Bay Yacht Club and a beach at the far end. When we visited it was high tide and there was only a small sandy area beside the rock wall. At low tide more of the rocky beach would be exposed. The area in front of the yacht club was rock and eroded clay and generally not very attractive. While you are in this area keep an eye open for the cormorants resting on the jetty and the pretty colourful beach huts. There is a pier and no swimming or diving is allowed in this area.

At high tide a better option might be to take the wooden staircase (about 60 steps) at the end of Daveys Bay Road to Pelican Point Beach.
