Coral Sea Park honours the Battle of the Coral Sea, a joint American-Australian air and sea battle that became a pivotal turning point in the Pacific campaign. The park is a major sporting facility that supports many rugby and soccer fields, a cricket pitch and practice nets. These areas are floodlit for night training. Alongside the sporting fields is a fenced children's playground, bike park, full basketball court, toilets (usually locked outside of sporting events), shady trees, seating, parking (can be hard to find on weekends when sports matches are on), doggy bag dispenser and bin. The perimeter of the park is covered with large established trees that provide a pleasant environment for the spectators and passive users of the park.
The park is a designated off-leash dog exercise area, however unleashed dogs are prohibited on sports fields during matches or training.
