Due to the predominately rural nature of the municipality, Wellington Shire Council nominates dog on lead areas, rather than dog off lead areas. Apart from the nominated areas listed below, dogs can be exercised without leads, provided they remain in the effective control of the person walking them. All dogs are required to be placed on a lead at all times in the following designated areas: Sale Pedestrian Mall, Raymond Street (between Stawell and Foster Streets), Cunninghame Street (between Reeve and York Streets), Macarthur Street (between Reeve and York Streets), Macalister Street (between Reeve and York Streets), York Street (between Foster and Stawell Streets), Adventure Playground/Fauna Park Area (Guthridge Parade), Market Area (During Market operational times only), Port of Sale Precinct (Bordered by Foster Street, Park Street, Canal Road and Desailly Street South), Lake Guthridge and Guyatt Walking Tracks (Flora and Fauna Risk), Little Athletics Ground/Playground Area (McLachlan Street).
