Koonung Creek Linear Park (Doncaster East) Dog Off Leash Area

The Koonung Creek Linear Park follows the course of the Koonung Creek (and the Eastern Freeway) which forms the boundary of Manningham, Whitehorse and some of Boroondara.

The Linear Park contains the Koonung Trail, a shared path for cyclists and pedestrians which has good connections to on-road paths, and links directly to the Main Yarra Trail and the EastLink Trail.

The Koonung Creek Linear Park is approximately 10 kilometres in length in total from Thompsons Road, Bulleen to Springvale Road, Donvale.

The Doncaster East section of the Koonung Creek Linear Park runs from Wetherby Road to Tunstall Road past Blackburn Road. This is a distance of 2.4 km. This section of the Koonung Trail is on the north side of the Eastern Freeway.

Dogs can be off-leash except they must be on-lead on the main trail path and within 5 metres of the path.

Review:

We travelled westwards from the Donvale section of the Koonung Creek Linear Park and started this section at Tunstall Road.

Initially we followed the gravel path between the creek and fences of neighbouring houses. After 260m, a track comes in from the north from Bowen Road (St Clems Trail). Near this point is a seat and water tap with bowl.

Then we were back on an asphalt trail with cyclists with a rocky wall on one side and a fence bordering the creek bank on the other side.

The trail passes under Blackburn Road in a tunnel and then continues past Boronia Grove Reserve which is a dog off leash area. There is a seat, water tap with bowl and bike repair station next to the trail here here. A path leads off to Leed Street (330m) here.

Cross the bridge and follow the signs to Wetherby Road. On the way there is an unofficial BMX track, a big MUDDY pond (which unfortunately our dog decided to have a paddle in) and some limited grassy areas.

When you reach Weatherby Road the Doncaster East section of the Koonung Creek Linear Park is complete.
