Fitzroy Gardens is a very picturesque park with lots of trees and green lawn providing plenty of space recreational activities. The Gardens are filled with roses, rhododendrons and mature copper beeches, elm, oaks, and plane trees. This site was originally a landfill and was later considered as a site for Hobart's Museum and Zoo before being laid out as Garden Crescent Reserve in the early 1900s. The Gardens offer a playground, shade trees, toilets, seating, picnic facilities, water tap, doggy bag dispenser and bins. Dogs are permitted off-lead from 7pm to 9am during daylight savings time and between 3pm and 9am at all other times.
