Bennelong Park (Foreshore) Dog Off Leash Area
24 Waterview Street,
Putney NSW,
2112
Bennelong Park is located on the waterfront and adjacent to Kissing Point Park. It is a dog off leash area at all times and includes access to a small beach area on the Parramatta River. There are some swings, cycle way and walking paths but minimal other facilities with no water stations, toilets, seating or picnic tables.
Bennelong Park is named in honour of Woollarawarre Bennelong (c.1764 - 1813), a Wangal man of the Dharug-speaking peoples, of the Port Jackson area at the time of the first British settlement in Australia in 1788. Bennelong served as an interlocutor between the Dharug-speaking peoples and the British, both in Sydney and in Britain.
